Bangkok, Thailand – As Uzbekistan Airways continues to solidify its presence in Southeast Asia, we had the opportunity to sit down with Mr. Murod M. From Diplomacy to Aviation

Although Mr. Gulyamov is a relatively new figure in the aviation industry, his professional journey is deeply rooted in international diplomacy and strategic economic planning.

> “I previously served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focusing on bilateral and multilateral economic relations,” he shared. “Later, I led the Analytical Department, where I specialized in planning commercial cooperation between nations.”

This background, he says, equipped him with critical skills—negotiation, cross-border collaboration, and market entry strategy—that now inform his leadership role in promoting Uzbekistan Airways in Thailand.

Navigating Thailand’s Competitive Market

Thailand, a regional aviation hub, presents both challenges and opportunities.

> “One of the main challenges is standing out in a crowded field of well-established carriers,” said Mr. Gulyamov. “But this is also a chance to introduce Uzbekistan Airways as a reliable, authentic, and strategic option for both leisure and business travelers.”

Rather than operating direct offices, Uzbekistan Airways relies on trusted General Sales Agents (GSAs) in Thailand—AVIAREPS (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Thai Air Services—to manage sales, marketing, and customer service.

> “This GSA model provides agility and leverages deep local insights,” he explained.

Strategic Positioning in AsiaUzbekistan Airways aims to position itself as a key connector between Central Asia and global destinations.

> “Our focus is on high-potential, underserved routes. We differentiate with Central Asian hospitality, reliability, and competitive pricing,” said Mr. Gulyamov.

With Tashkent evolving as a regional hub, the airline is enhancing its transit capabilities and passenger experience. Collaborations with local partners like Aviareps and Thai Air Services are key to tailoring services to local traveler preferences.

New Routes and Cultural Tourism Initiatives

Looking ahead, Uzbekistan Airways is actively expanding its route network and tourism offerings. In Thailand, current routes include Bangkok–Tashkent and Phuket–Tashkent, both of which have shown promising performance. A new Krabi–Tashkent route is set to launch soon.

> “This new route supports our focus on spiritual and cultural tourism, especially for Muslim communities,” he noted. “Earlier this year, we welcomed a high-level delegation from the Thai Muslim Religious Affairs Council. It marked a new chapter of collaboration in religious tourism.”

Uzbekistan, home to Islamic heritage cities like Bukhara, Samarkand, and Khiva—all UNESCO World Heritage Sites—offers rich opportunities for both spiritual pilgrims and cultural tourists.

> “We are developing custom travel programs and improving accessibility to these destinations for Southeast Asian Muslim communities,” Mr. Gulyamov said.

Innovation and Sustainability

Beyond route expansion, the airline is investing in digital infrastructure modernization, improving the booking experience, and expanding its loyalty program. There is also a strong focus on sustainable aviation practices, in line with international safety and environmental standards.

> “All of these efforts are aimed at strengthening our position in Asia and promoting responsible, connected travel,” he emphasized.

Trusted Local Partnerships

Uzbekistan Airways’ success in Thailand is underpinned by its partnership with AVIAREPS (Thailand) and Thai Air Services, the airline’s official Passenger Sales Agents.

> “Their expertise in airline representation and strong market understanding play a vital role in our commercial success,” said Mr. Gulyamov.

These GSAs handle everything from ticketing and reservations to marketing and customer support, ensuring travelers have a seamless experience.
